The AGM-45 Shrike is air ground munitions designed to destroy enemy air defense radar systems. The AGM-45 Shrike was first employed during the Vietnam War by the US Navy in 1965 using A-4 Skyhawk aircraft. A year later the USAF integrated the weapon into the F-105F, F-105G Wild Weasel and later the F-4 Phantom jets. Many pilots in Vietnam did not like the Shrike because of its limitations and its success rate of around 25%. Shrike's frequency band covered by the seeker and field of view was too narrow. This experience played a big role in the development of the future AGM-88 HARM.

About 95 AGM-45s were used in 1991 during Desert Storm against Iraqi air defense, mostly by F-4Gs. AGM-45 Shrike Decommissioned in 1992.
