Class 25-01 Germany Training Brief
To: All v303FG DCS F-16 and DCS A-10 Pilots (B-Course and MQT)
Location: Spangdahlem AB, Germany
Operating Area: Germany

Welcome to Class 25-01, student pilots. You’re joining the v303rd Fighter Group at Spangdahlem AB, operating across Germany using multiple ranges and military training areas. Whether you’re flying the F-16 Viper or A-10 Warthog, this training is your gateway to mastering your aircraft within DCS World. The purpose of the v303rd Fighter Group’s training program is to train and qualify our aircrews through a logically progression.

Training Objectives

  • B-Course Pilots: You’re here to build foundational skills—the course is designed to make the student pilot understand the basic SOPs within the group and make them proficient as a wingman in all aspects of fixed wing aircraft employment within the v303 FG. The course is standardized across all airframes and consists of Surface Attack (SA) and Night Surface Attack (NSA) blocks.
  • MQT Pilots: Your focus is mission readiness—this course is designed to further refine the students’ abilities within the v303 FG at a tactical level. Each aircraft MQT program is refined to highlight the aircrafts specific capabilities and primary mission set. See the specific MDS 11-2 for specific requirements.
  • Weapons School Pilots: The goal of this course is to train pilots how to control and exploit the air environment and how to plan large force exercises (LFE)/combat missions. Mandatory topics for all v303 FG members include 2-Ship Flight lead Weapons School (2FLUG) with each squadron having additional mandatory courses. Graduates serve as the advisors for the v303 FG, their respective squadron(s), and assist in drafting and validating tactical doctrine for the Group.

Operational Environment

  • Baumholder and Hammelburg Ranges: These ranges offer diverse terrain—rolling hills, valleys, and sprawling forests—ideal for low-level ingress, pop-up attacks, and defensive maneuvering. Restricted airspace for these ranges ensures freedom to train hard, but stay sharp on boundaries. Additionally multiple Military Operating Areas (MOA) and Low Altitude Tactical Navigation Training Areas (LATN) are available across Germany.
  • Threat Simulation: Expect scripted SAMs (SA-2, SA-6, SA-11 ect.), AAA, and enemy CAP flown by DCS AI aggressor squadrons. Red Flag-inspired LFE (large force exercise) scenarios may be in play.
  • Sortie Schedule: Currently at Spang, typical flight night ops tempo is Thursdays and Sundays at 1900 EST, though the range is open daily for members to register a flight plan for additional practice. Your participation is often part of our FG’s “work-up” to prepare for the next virtual deployment down-range. B-Course pilots will focus on single-ship and two-ship profiles; MQT pilots, expect two- to four-ship CAS, STRIKE, CAP and SEAD taskings. Debriefs are mandatory but should be limited to no more than 30 minutes.
  • Spangdahlem AB: Home plate for all ops. Check Germany IFG for RWY layout and Freqs. Fuel and weapons loadouts will be pre-coordinated by flight leads—check your MDC kneeboard for specifics.

Safety and Admin

  • Emergency Procedures: Divert options include Ramstein AB to the Southeast, Bitburg AB to the Northwest, or Wiesbaden AB to the East if needed. Know your ejection envelope—don’t ride a bad jet into the dirt. Check IFG for more info.
  • Debrief: Every accredited sortie ends with a debriefing in discord and hot wash posted via the Forums on your training tacker thread. Bring your A-game—notes, tacview, HUD tapes, and honesty. Mistakes are fine; we are all here to have fun and continue learning the hobby.

Internal Competitions

  • Virtual Gunsmoke: Gunsmoke is a group wide air-to-ground competition between individuals and teams representing their Squadrons. Events within the competition consist of items like air-to-ground gunnery, dive bombing, and rocket deliveries as well as flight cohision and mutual support. The 2025 v303 FG vGunsmoke competition is tentatively scheduled to occur in August 2025.
  • Virtual Hawgsmoke: Hawgsmoke is an A-10 bombing, missile, and tactical gunnery completion that is held every year within the v303 FS 'KC Hawgs.". The competition pits virtual A-10C pilots within the v303 FS against one another for bragging rights within the Squadron. The 2025 vHawgsmoke competition is tentatively scheduled to occur in early December 2025.

Final Words

This is your proving ground. The Germany topography doesn’t care about your sim hours or your excuses—it’ll expose your weaknesses and reward your hustle. Fly smart, fly aggressive, and trust your wingman. Your time here is about FUN and progression—both in skill and as part of the v303rd’s legacy. Questions go to your flight lead or Command. Let’s make Class 25-01 the standard for excellence.

See you in the debrief.
